What to do when you want to give up…
Everywhere you look there are messages that whisper to our easily conditioned mind… “keep going…you go this”.
But what happens when you don’t “got this”? When you are weary and tired and feel so done.
What happens when you want to give up?
You do just that. Give up completely.
I know… what about perseverance?
Well if the words “you can do it, keep going” inspire an extra fire that pushes you forward, go for it.
But when the thought of doing one more thing makes you want to burn your life to the ground, then maybe it is time to give it up. Fully.
This is one of the scariest things we can do but I will tell you from my own experience it is the most helpful.
Rather than lugging all the weight of the world up a hill why not drop the stones and let them crack at the bottom? And no, don’t go down and sweep it up.
So give it up. Give up trying to solve everyone’s problems (thus denying their own path from unfolding). Give up taking responsibility for everyone (yes moms, even your children).
I can hear you… “I am responsible for xyz!” No you aren’t.
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU AND HOW YOU SHOW UP AND INTERACT WITH THE WORLD AND NOTHING ELSE. (if that)
There are many ways to do this. But surrender (the fancy word for giving up) is one of the best and most efficient ways to really own your energy, your alignment and your responsibility to you.
And the everything else… well “let go and let god”.
What if you don’t have to make anything happen? What if you just have to let it happen?
Okay for example, I had gotten off of my daily beloved meditation routine while moving. I was starting to get frustrated with myself. Each day I would say, “I need to get back in this routine, I need discipline and structure. I need to force myself back in to it.”
But after that never happened, I let go a little and allowed myself some grace, went and enjoyed some time with friends for the holiday and what do you know, I naturally woke up early today, excited for tea, journaling, an hour long meditation and then walked right back in to the gym. With ease.
So give up the striving, the fighting for, and fighting against to see what happens when you trust in a divine order.
When you do this, you might be surprised what moves through you, what changes in you, what comes to you, what relationships sort themselves out and what a sense of freedom you feel.
Of course, this is not actually a passive state, it’s a surrendered flow state with trust as the backbone.
And if higher power and god is feeling a little foreign to you then surrender to the wiser part of you, the part of you that doesn’t need fear based stress as a motivator, the part of you that lets curiosity and inspiration lead the way.
I know there a lot of what if’s that come with this but set those aside for a bit and try something like this:
“Okay divine spirit, I give up, I surrender, let the universe sort it out and show me the way. I promise to do my best to stop worrying and actually trust in the power and magic of the universe.”
And then you really do have to let it go. When something feels like inspiration, of play or fun or even curiosity and excitement (even if a little nervous) then go for it!
Okay lets hear it!
What are you surrendering?
Me personally, all of it but specifically my business and how to match with more clients…because they really do always come when I have space for it.
